My contribution to the Way of the Sword, and the Way of the Trader, is to refer you to “The Sword of No Sword”, a biography of Yamaoka Tesshu written by John Stevens sensei. Yamaoka Tesshu was a legendary samurai who lived during the transition from the Tokugawa Shogunate to the Meiji Restoration, circa 1860s.
Tesshu once met a wealthy merchant who requested a caligraphic work from Tesshu. During the course of their conversation, the merchant described the key to his success:
